Default Doubty noob, buy campaign or PvP Access Kit if only interested in pvp?

Hi, I'm starting to play guild wars following the trial of a friend, and as I like to just play the game for pvp, I'm thinking of buying the PvP Access Kit, but I have some doubts about how it works. The main questions I have read many articles in clear English, but there are things you can not understand or know how it works.

- The main question is; How you get the other pvp skills (in addition to the base 6)? I know you get it from pvp quest, but how about? Can you get it from winning arenas, GvG, ranking or something? Do you have 6 secondary skills too?
- Do you use PvP skills in pvp, or do you use also PvE skills? I have not found anything that pvp skills are, or or a list of them. if you know a site where a watch list or something, so I would appreciate that.
- The team that you have with PvP only character, is the best available? it could be better in PVE? This is a question that comes to me that there is another pack that is called "PvP Item Unlock Pack." I do not know if the PvP Access Kit incorporates what or how.
- The last question is referred to with this: "The PvP Access Kit also includes 60 free unlocks (20 elite skills, 20 normal skills and 20 items) to help you instantly power up your game" pvp skills arent all available or unblockables? does it mean PVE skills and items? And, are this unlocks irreversible? if you pick a skill, its permanent?
I know that post is a long and costly to answer, but would greatly appreciate any response. I do not know if this is the option that I should or should buy any campaign or the trilogy, since I only care about pvp part, and i do not have much time to level. In the area of guides and tutorials I have not found anything, so post here (I hope this is the right place ).

Thanks, bye. (sorry my english)

PvP skills are unlocked by either gaining them in PvE (from quests or buying them at Skill Traders), or by using Balthazar faction to unlock them in PvP. You gain Balthazar faction by playing in the different types of PvP available.

All PvP skills can be used in PvE, however there are some PvE-only skill that cannot be used in PvP.

PvP characters are the fastest way to roll a character that can competently compete in PvP. As long as you have the proper runes and skills unlocked it will only take moments to set up a PvP character where it could take many hours to have a PvE character even remotely PvP ready.

All PvP skills are available via unlocking them with Balthazar faction. This access kit basically allows you to unlock a good portion of those for free by shelling out real cash instead of balthazar faction. In my opinion though, it isn't worth it. You won't know which skills are the best to unlock and will end up regretting it later when you can just unlock the same skills with Balthazar faction. It's best to not worry about the kit and start off with the basic skills Anet gives you. By playing enough and being patient/asking for advice, you'll have a much better idea of what skills to unlock then if you just decided to buy the PvP Access kit

If you are buying this game to PvP then you want to get the triology + eotn. Without these you'll be unable to unlock specific skills that are vital to creating a good PvP bar.

Hope this post helps.

1. You get skills for "Faction". 1000 faction is the price for a skill, elite skills cost more. You have 8 skills on your bar.
2. Some skills have special pvp versions, and there are a few skills that you can only get in pve and only use in pve. But in general all skills can be used in both pve and pvp.
3. You do not get the best available team. You can pick some skills, ideally you ask someone who already plays GW for advice which skills you should pick/unlock. Still, you will need some practice. It is not only the build that decides the match.
4. If you pick a skill, it is permanent and you used one unlock.

5. You should buy the Trilogy, it comes for cheap. You should play a bit PvE, even if you only care for PvP and already know that. It is not that easy to learn PvP by just starting out with the unlock pack, especially if you have no clue what to unlock actually.

You will need all 3 campaigns, I recommend you get a trilogy package, so that you have access to all skills and classes. If you still like the game after that, you can buy the pvp unlock pack.

But its the cheapest way to play the game to ensure it likes me, isnt it? With the PvP Access Kit, it isnt neccesary to buy trilogy to use skills of all of them, you can unblock skills from 3 campaigns(expansions) with balthazar points. If i bought only a campaing, nightfall for example, i couldnt use skills from the other two, but with Pvp acces kit, i can get skills of 3 through pvp although i must play a lot pvp, isnt it? And items are same too.

If its true what i say, that is what i have readen in forums and GW homepage, its the cheapest way to test pure pvp in GW, isnt it?

Thanks!

And it's newb, please don't call yourself a noob. There is a difference.

EDIT: here is the post: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...70&postcount=9

Yes and no. They will be available for PvP characters and heros from the start because you unlocked them, but new PvE characters will have to buy them again or tome them.

If you're only interested in pvp and not at all in pve, get the PvP Access kit. From this point on I'm talking about a PvP only account:

You get more skills by using the Balthazar factions you gain from PvPing. 1k, 1.5k, 3k Balth faction unlocks range of items and skills (3k & 6k for heroes). Unlocking something is account wide. So say you unlocked an ele skill/item on your Elementalist, when you make a Necromancer that skill/item is available to be used.
Balth faction is now much easier to gain with the daily zaishen combat quests in Temple of Balthazar. It's now faster to unlock things for a PvP only account, just watch your Balth limit when you do things. Gaining ranks in PvP titles increases that limit.

What you do when you buy the PvP access kit is find out what items (inscriptions, runes, insignias, weapon mods) and skills you need in order to run a useful build in PvP. Don't waste the free unlocks on useless things. An idea of where to start with builds: http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page It'll be better if your friend knows what's being run in PvP.

If you only pvp you only need to worry about the PvP versions of skills. GW adjusted some skills so it's not too powerful in PvP, so there're PvP versions of normal skills. GW added PvE skills only for PvE side only.

The xxx Unlock Pack is just a quicker way of unlocking things so people have a faster start in creating [items & skills for builds]. It's like paying $20 for 2 weeks of pvp to unlock things.

Official wiki: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page

Edit: It takes longer to get a PvE character ready for PvP than a PvP only character, so if you want to try GW PvP get the PvP Access Kit. If you want to PvE, buy the campaigns or whatever and see how long it takes and how much it'll cost you.

but, if as you say i unblock some ele skill, how it will be available for a necro? Are you telling me that when you unblock some career skill (ele for example) you unblock all "same rank" skill or other careers. or youre telling me that if i take ele as secondary career of other, i'll have this skills unlocked? . I know about skills are bound to account, as items unblocked.

i suppose you had an error when you wrote it to me, or i missunderstood you. can you explain it better, plz? You made me crazy with this, man xD.

Maybe you misunderstood me. I only asked that if i unblock some skills of or one or several careers in a trial version, will these skills be available in my acount, if i upgrade beta with pvp acces key? (No a game campaign)

PvP characters have access to any skills that are unlocked. Just make the Necro's secondary profession Elementalist like you said.

If you still have questions look at http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Unlock

Yes, that is why the PvP access kit exists. You dont' have to unlock professions though, those are all there from the start. Honesty I think you should just buy the trilogy or such. I have one PvE character and it's good to go through the story for once and get familiar with things and unlock items when you ID things.

Well that depends.......if you only want to do PvP then buy the pack. Warning though in HA (Heros Accent) there is a rank requirement in most of the groups that form so you might find it fustrating and rather boring.

If you like questing and having really cool armor than PvE is the way to go. If anything you can always do both as you will see most PvP players make Pve characters to have "cool" armor.

In my opnion don't waste money buying the PvP kit. You can always earn it by doing the PvE stuff....unless that was changed...LA = RA, Droks = TA, HA =??? ...in the old days in these PvE outposts you could go to the corresponding arena.

On a PvP Access Kit:
Play with PvP-only characters. All campaigns and expansion professions, skills, items able to be unlocked.
Play any class, any secondary.
Unlocking insignias, runes, weapon mods, skills once = unlock for all characters made.
Hit 'J' command to create all your equipment.
Enter PvP. Learn PvP. Play PvP.

Buying Campaigns and playing with PvE and PvP characters:
Play with both PvE and PvP-only characters. Only things that can be unlocked depends on the campaigns and expansions purchased.
Play any class, pay to unlock secondary profession with PvE characters.
Unlocking insignias, runes, weapon mods, skills once = unlock for account and heroes, BUT does not make it instantly available on another PvE character made. It is available on a PvP character made.
You can unlock by playing PvE and buying things to unlock or quest for it. You can PvP with a PvP character but that's doing the same as if you had a PvP only account.
You can only use 'J' command on PvP-only characters. If you want to use a PvE character to PvP you will have to collect all the equipment needed to PvP well and have all the right skills available. Which will be time costly as well as costly on the GW gold.
Enter PvE. Enter PvP. Learn PvE. Learn PvP. Play PvE. Play PvP.

If you want to PvP only, don't waste time trying to unlock with PvE. I play PvE as well as PvP, and if you're relying on PvE to unlock the things you need for PvP you'll be wasting too much time. In PvE, the things you unlock by identifying items are random, buying unidentified gold items to unlock items will be costly for random IDs, buying skills as a way to unlock is costly, doing quests to unlock skills is time consuming. If you want to make PvE character to PvP with there're many more things to do.

Thanks all for all!!! I??ve purchased the Pvp kit today upgrading the trial prophethies version. The skills unlocked in beta, keep unlocked in the pvp kit account update, so i have about 90 skills questing until yak's bend with 3 hybryd chars. I have a nice selection of skills to start pvp playing. I know i will need a lot of more specific skills but I'll be patient geting them with the 60 free unlock cause it seems a complex game. In addition, runes can be adquired buying it paying gold like pve,so i will save some faction point here too, and 3 basic heros are given to you, nice to start playing too see how this game works. Thanks again, it seems a very funny and addictive game...will see in-game mates! cya

Pvp acces kit it what i was looking for

Note: Ranger pets can be unlocked in pve to play pvp like skills and items? Pets that i "hunted" in beta dont appears me now(like black bear, Moa, and the cat of the initiation quest)
